Skin Health Microgrant Shaping the Future of Skin Health

L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty’s Social Impact Department created the Skin Health Microgrant—a $2,500 funding opportunity designed to support medical students passionate about promoting access to skin health for all.

​Through this initiative, we aim to uplift emerging leaders and bring inclusive care to communities.

Grant Eligibility

The Skin Health Microgrant is available to medical students who meet the following criteria:

  • Currently pursuing an MD or DO degree at an accredited US medical or osteopathic school
  • Demonstrated interest in dermatology
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must have a mentor who will oversee the project

Award amount $2,500

(four awards total)

Project Requirements

Proposals must be 1 to 3 pages and include:

  • Problem statement
  • Solution (including goals and objectives)
  • Budget and budget narrative (download template)
  • Timeline
  • Success and evaluation metrics

Focus areas (at least one required):

  • Access to care
  • Provider education and cultural humility
  • Patient education and health literacy
  • Inclusive research
  • Climate and skin health

Proposals should focus on improving skin health outcomes and access to care for communities who face systemic barriers.

Awardees must submit a brief report within 30 days of project completion.

Application Checklist

Application deadline: end of day June 30. Applications open June 1.
All submissions are reviewed by a panel of board-certified dermatologists.

    • Budget and budget narrative*
    • Timeline
    • Success and evaluation metrics
  • Proof of medical school enrollment
  • Letter of recommendation from mentor, including a statement confirming:
    1. acceptance to serve as your mentor
    2. knowledge of the proposed project

If your project requires Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, please consult your IRB and include proof of approval with your submission.

*The Skin Health Microgrant provides $2,500 to cover direct expenses related to a medical student’s participation in a skin health project. Eligible costs may include project materials, travel, lodging, and—if applicable—a student stipend. Please submit a detailed budget along with a narrative explaining how the funds will be used.

L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty partners with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
to manage the program’s application and peer‑review process. Communication about applications will come from AAAS.
